Coolie update: Nagarjuna to share screen space with Rajinikanth in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film

The team behind the upcoming film Coolie is busy announcing its star cast, with Soubin Shahir and now Nagarjuna joining the lineup alongside Rajinikanth.

The makers of Coolie, have been revealing cast announcements of the film one by one. After the team announced that famous Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir has joined the cast of the Rajinikanth-starrer film, the latest entrant is Telugu actor Nagarjuna.

We had earlier reported that actor Rajinikanth will be joining forces with director Lokesh Kanangaraj for a film titled Coolie. The makers are gearing up for announcing the star cast of the film. On Wednesday, the team welcomed Manjummel Boys actor Soubin Shahir to the film. Following this, actor Nagarjuna has been revealed to be part of the film. With actors from various industries, looks like team Coolie is looking to go all guns blazing to make the film on a pan-Indian level.

He will be playing the role of Simon, it was announced on Thursday for the occasion of the actor’s birthday. “Introducing @iamnagarjuna as Simon, from the world of #CoolieWishing the versatile performer King #Nagarjuna a Happy Birthday!” the team announced while sharing a stylish black and white photo of Nagarjuna.

Coolie is Rajinikanth’s 171th outing as lead actor. The film is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, in his maiden collaboration with the superstar. So far, we know that the film is backed by Sun Pictures banner and has Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music for the film.

Coolie is expected to be a gangster action flick with renowned stunt coordinator duo Anbariv associated with the project. The makers have remained tight-lipped about the project’s plot. However, it is confirmed that Coolie will be a standalone project, and not associated with the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which already consists of Kaithi, Vikram and Leo.

Girish Gangadharan is the director of photography. Philomin Raj handles the editing. Coolie, which is produced by Kalanithi Maran under the prestigious banner Sun Pictures, is expected to hit the theatres by the summer of 2025. A release date for the film is yet to be announced.
