Retro, a romantic action drama, featuring Suriya and Pooja Hegde in the lead, will be in theatres on May 1, 2025.
Tamil superstar Suriya’s collaboration with Karthik Subbaraj, Retro, is said to be an action-packed revenge thriller, with the actor playing a gangster looking at putting his dark past behind him and find love. Suriya is paired with Pooja Hegde in the film, which is slated to release in theatres on May 1, 2025.
Earlier today, Retro’s post-theatrical OTT rights details came to light, when Netflix announced the film as part of its 2025 lineup of Tamil films. “A man’s love can move mountains, but his rage? That’s Retro!” read the post from the streamer, adding that the film would be available with Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi audio options. While a streaming date is not currently available, Retro will likely be on Netflix on or around the 30-day mark.

Also announced as part of Netflix’s Pandigai 2025 are films like Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, Dulquer Salmaan-Rana Daggubati’s Kaantha, Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon and his untitled movie with Keerthiswaran, Dhruv Vikram’s Bison, among others.
Written and directed by Karthik, Retro, which bears the tagline Love, Laughter and War, has an eclectic cast on board, including Malayalam actors Joju George and Jayaram, as well as others like Nassar, Prakash Raj, Karunakaran, Uday Mahesh, Sujith Shankar, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Tarak Ponnappa, etc.

Shot across locations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Ooty, Kerala and Chennai, Retro, which has music by Santhosh Narayan, has been produced by Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment. Retro is Suriya’s 44thfilm, shooting of which was wrapped in October. The title was announced only a couple of weeks ago, with a teaser featuring Suriya and Pooja, in which he tells her about his angry, violent side, all of which he’s prepared to set aside for a life with her.

Meanwhile, Suriya was last seen in Kanguva, a highly-anticipated period action drama, which did not live up to the hype and became a box office dud.
