The glorious combination that gave us many memorable albums like Chitram, Nuvvu Nenu, Jayam, Ounanna Kadhanna and Nijam, is returning after a 15-year sabbatical. Yes, we’re hinting at filmmaker Teja and composer RP Patnaik. The director-composer duo is working together again for Ahimsa, the launch vehicle of producer Suresh Babu’s son Abhiram and Geethika.

The first single from the action romance, Neethoney Neethoney, was launched yesterday. The song feels like a hattip to the yesteryear era in terms of the composition - the laidback pace, minimal instrumentation, chaste lyrics and solid playback singing. In this song, the protagonist is helping his love interest recover from a personal setback and is acting as a healing influence on her.

Geethika, in the song, looks wounded, physically and mentally and Abhiram is trying his best to bring back joy in her life. This song is by all means a fitting comeback for RP Patnaik and will introduce a new generation to the composer’s capabilities. The fitting comeback would’ve been flawness had the musician taken better care of the tonal shift in the charanam - it isn’t only out of place but also derails the number’s impact to an extent.

The Sid Sriram we notice in the song is a man who is a patch above his Kalavathi days and is assured and confident with his rendition. However, it’s Satya Yamini who consolidates his presence with her soothing voice. The opening lines ‘Kalalo Ayina..Kalayika Ayina..Kalisundani Kalalaina..Neethoney Neethoney’ showcase the lyrical highs that a man of Chandrabose’s calibre can provide.

The film’s shoot was wrapped up recently and the post-production formalities are progressing at a brisk pace. Teja has also written the story and screenplay of the film which has Sameer Reddy cranking the camera. Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is the editor of the film that also stars Sadha, Bindu Chandramouli, Rajith Bedi, Kamal Kamaraju, to name a few. Ahimsa’s release date isn’t out yet.
