Vikram in Cobra
After realizing that Vikram-starrer Cobra has been receiving mixed response, with many coming down heavily on the film's exhausting run time, makers had announced that a trimmed version of the movie will be screened from evening shows on day two.
The action thriller directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu earned around 12 crores gross from across Tamil Nadu. But its collection witnessed a big dip on day two, thanks to the discouraging reviews. The film which was released on August 31 grossed around 25 crores from across the globe. It looks like the movie couldn't collect even 50% of day one collections on day two.
Despite an earnest performance from Vikram in dual roles and technical aspects lending the required support to the film, its confusing plot and patience-testing screenplay garnered flak from critics and the audience. The makers are now looking forward to seeing if the trimmed version would be able to attract moviegoers.
Cobra saw a huge dip in collections in Kerala, Karnataka and Telugu states, too, where it opened to decent numbers on day one. Most of the audience and the trade are blaming the director for his miscalculation. With a run time of 3 hours 3 minutes and 3 seconds, the film is the longest Tamil project in terms of duration in recent times.
Vikram had recently confirmed that he will be joining hands again with the filmmaker for another project. Now, all eyes are on the duo's second collaboration. We will have to wait and see if the untitled film will go on floors.
Vikram has Ponniyin Selvan coming up next; the multi-starrer flick directed by Mani Ratnam will be released across the country on September 30. If everything goes well, the actor's long-pending film Dhruva Natchathiram, too, will hit the screens this year.
