British filmmaker Alex Garland’s thriller Civil War is OTT bound. The film, which hit theatres in April, is set to drop on Amazon Prime Video, with the streamer announcing that the action-adventure thriller will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu from June 21.

A commercial success, A24’s Civil War is set in the not too distant future, when America is struck by a second Civil War. A team of journalists, including two photojournalists and two reporters, travel from New York City to Washington, DC, during a civil war fought across the country between an authoritarian federal government and regional factions, to interview the President before rebels take the capital. A journey that should ideally take them only a few hours becomes long winding, when they come across war-torn areas and are forced to navigate through small and potentially dangerous towns.
The film stars Kirsten Dusnt and Cailee Spaeny as the photojournalists, while Wagner Moura and Stephen McKinley Henderson are the reporters hoping to interview the President, played by Nick Offerman. Dunst’s husband Jesse Plemmons is also on the cast that includes, Sonoya Mizuno, Jefferson White, Nelson lee, Jin Ha, Karl Glusman, Juani Feliz, Jonica T Gibbs, among others.

Civil War had opened to largely positive reviews and is said to have made USD 115 million at the worldwide box office, about half of which came from outside the US, despite the film’s rooted subject. Critics described the film as intense, immersive, and thought-provoking, with Dunst being quoted as saying that she struggled with PTSD after working on the film, which left her with a “profound sense of emptiness.
