Christopher: OTT rights of Mammootty, Amala Paul’s thriller bagged by this leading platform?

It was only a matter of time that OTT platforms grabbed the streaming rights of megastar Mammootty’s upcoming release Christopher. The star has had a stellar run since 2022 – both on OTTs and in theatres with his movies such as Bheeshma Parvam, Puzhu and Rorschach clocking record number of views for the respective streaming services.

We now hear that the streaming rights of Christopher has now been bagged by a leading platform. The movie, which is touted to be a big-budget investigative thriller, is helmed by director B Unnikrishnan and is scripted by Udaykrishna, who had previously written films such as Mohanlal’s Pulimurugan, Aaraattu and Monster.

Apart from Mammootty, the movie also has a stellar ensemble cast featuring Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sneha, Dileesh Pothan, Jinu Joseph, Shine Tom Chacko and Vinay Rai, who will be portraying the antagonist.

Currently, Christopher is expected to release in theatres worldwide on February 9. This will set up a clash with Mohanlal’s Spadikam 4K version which is also set for a limited release on the same date. Christopher streaming rights have reportedly been sold to Amazon Prime Video, which had also grabbed the rights for B Unnikrishnan’s previous movie Aaraattu last year. The movie could be released on the streaming platform in March 2023, after its theatrical run.

The movie has Mammootty essaying the role of a police chief, who is tasked with investigating a series of crimes that also have a personal connection. Vinay Rai, who will be making his Malayalam debut with Christopher, will play the character of Sitaram Trimurthi in the film, which also has Tamil actress Vasanthi, who had essayed the character of Agent Tina in Kamal Haasan’s Vikram.

Meanwhile, Mammootty’s latest release Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam hit theatres on January 19. The Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial, which also has Ramya Pandian, Ashokan and Poo Ram, is also produced by Mammootty under the banner Mammootty Kampany.
