Set in the 1950s, the film will follow the story of a young boy who imagines a friendship with the veteran American actor, and is based on an original idea by Evans
After etching his name in pop culture as the most American of MCU heroes, Captain America, Chris Evans is set to don the role of a real-life American icon with his next project. The actor is in talks to star in a film about the legendary actor Gene Kelly.
According to a report in Deadline, the upcoming film will be set in the 1950s and will tell the story of a 12 year old boy who works in the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. While working on Kelly’s new film,the boy imagines himself to be friends with the iconic actor and lets his imagination run wild. The story is reportedly one of Evans’ original ideas.

Evans will portray the role of the late great actor. He is also set to produce the film along with John Logan, who is also penning the film’s script. Logan is well known for penning the scripts to popular films such as Gladiator (2000), The Aviator (2004) and Hugo (2011), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) and Skyfall (2012). He has also received Academy Award nominations for his work on said films.
The yet to be titled Kelly film also has Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman as producers, under their T-Street Productions banner. The duo had previously collaborated with Evans on the 2019 film Knives Out, where Johnson had served as director as well.

Meanwhile, Evans leads the voice cast for the upcoming animated film, Lightyear, in which he voices the titular character. He also has a starring role in the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man which also features Ryan Gosling,Ana de Armas and Dhanush.
