Sharan, who was last seen as a physical education master in Guru Shishyaru continues his streak of doing different roles with Choo Mantar. This time, he is an exorcist.
It’s been almost a year since Sharan was last seen onscreen. In September 2022, his home production Guru Shishyaru, in which he played a down-on-luck PT master, who coaches a Kabaddi team in a small rural school and has a transformative journey in the process. He would have had third film in theatres if Avatara Purusha Part 2 came out, but that one is still stuck in post-production with no news about its current status.
After Guru Shishyaru, Sharan had begun work on a new film directed by Navaneeth of Karvva and Buckasura fame. Produced by Tarun Shivappa, the film, Choo Mantar is a horror comedy about exorcism, with Sharan playing an exorcist. The actor has always been clear that even while experimenting with genres, his films will, eventually, be entertainers, and in his case, there will be amble amounts of humour. In an earlier interview with OTTplay right before the release of Guru Shishyaru, Sharan had said that all his films in the last 10 years that he’s been a leading man, have been vastly varied and yet lived up to the promise of entertaining his core audience.
First look of Sharan - Aditi Prabhudeva starrer horror comedy Choo Mantar out now
Choo Mantar is a film that Sharan is very excited about. “It’s a very different film for me. It ha s shades of a Sharan film, but for the most part, it is not and that’s the exciting bit,” he divulges reluctantly. The film is ready for release and the team, he tells us, is currently trying to figure out an apt date to bring it to theatres. In fact, they may not wait till the next year, if something suitable pops up soon. Well, it seems the film will release soon after all, what with the team announcing the arrival of the first song from it, which usually heralds the beginning of promotions.
Choo Mantar’s first song, featuring Sharan and leading lady Aditi Prabhudeva will be released on September 11. Written by Vijay Eashwar, the song has been sung and composed by Chandan Shetty.
