'Choked once again': Fans flood Twitter after the Netherlands stun South Africa in the T20 World Cup

The Netherlands has knocked South Africa out of the World Cup

Everyone anticipated clear victors in the final Group 2 games, and the Netherlands was not the favorite to defeat South Africa. However, the Dutch surprised everyone and have now paved a path for either Bangladesh or Pakistan to go to the semi-final round, with one position already occupied by India.

The Netherlands set a goal of 159 runs for the match, which was played on Sunday at Adelaide Oval, and the Proteas were held to 145 for 8 in 20 overs.

For the Netherlands, Brandon Glover took a three-wicket haul, while, Fred Klaassen and Bas de Leede bagged two wickets each.

In the chase, Rilee Rossouw top-scored for South Africa with a knock of 25 runs off 19 balls.

Initially, Colin Ackermann had smacked an unbeaten knock of 41 runs off 26 balls which had helped his side post 158 for four in 20 overs. Opener Stephan Myburgh also played a crucial knock of 37 runs off 30 balls. For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj bagged two wickets for South Africa.

Seeing the way the Proteas - who were table toppers - 'choke' again in a pressure situation got netizens to flood Twitter with memes.

Talking about the loss, South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma said, "Very disappointing. We really played well before this game. Hard one to swallow for the guys. We had the belief to get to the knockouts. You can pick out a lot of things when you lose that way. Firstly myself with the toss, winning the toss and bowling first".

Scott Edwards, the victorious skipper of the Netherlands said, "I am lost for words. This is going to take a bit of time to take it all in. We are used to these conditions in the Netherlands. We were confident around the 160 mark to defend this. Absolute gold for us after losing the first two games".
