The much-awaited action thriller of Chiyaan Vikram's Cobra is all set to hit screens on August 11. The film's director, Ajay Gnanamuthu shared the announcement on his micro-blogging page this evening, "#COBRA - WORLDWIDE THEATRICAL RELEASE ON AUGUST 11 🔥#CobraFromAugust11 ➡️ https://youtu.be/-ahWqhAW7_Q #ChiyaanVikram An @AjayGnanamuthu Film🎬 An @arrahman Musical🪗 @7screenstudio @IrfanPathan @SrinidhiShetty7 @roshanmathew2 @SonyMusicSouth (sic)."

Cobra is an action thriller that features an ensemble cast that includes Srinidhi Shetty, Miya George, Padmapriya Janakiraman, Kaniha, Roshan Mathew, Sarjano Khalid, Mrinalini Ravi, Meenakshi Govindarajan, KS Ravikumar, Babu Antony, Poovavaiyar and Mohammad Ali Baig. Vikram plays a mathematician in the film. Cobra marks the Tamil debut of veteran Malayalam actor Mamukoya and Kannada actress Srinidhi Shetty. It will also mark the acting debut of former cricketer Irfan Pathan. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. While cinematography is by Harish Kannan, editing is by Bhuvan Srinivasan.

The shoot for the film was wrapped up in February. Ajay had then taken to his social media handle to share the news, "He posted, "IT’S A WRAP!! Close to 3 years of filming comes to an end!! My sincere thanks to #ChiyaanVikram sir and my entire team who trusted me, sailed through all the struggles and difficult times with me and believed in the vision of #Cobra !! Forever indebted to each one of u! (sic)."

Ajay Gnanamuthu is known for films like Demonte Colony and Imaikka Nodigal. Though the film was slated to release much earlier, the pandemic delayed the plan. Ajay had slashed his remuneration by 40 per cent for the film. Produced by Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studios, in association with Viacom18, Cobra went on floors in August 2019. "This film will be a pan-Indian project, catering to the Tamil, Hindi and Telugu audience," a statement from the makers had read.
