The Mohan Raja directorial that released on October 5 also starred Nayanthara, Satyadev and Salman Khan
GodFather, the Telugu remake of Mohanlal's Lucifer, starring Chiranjeevi, Nayanthara and Satyadev in the lead, opened to enthusiastic responses across media and audiences alike in its first weekend. The film, adapted and directed by Mohan Raja, is produced by NV Prasad and RB Chowdary under SuperGood Films and Konidela Productions. While the political drama is reportedly underperforming in the week days in Telugu states, it's still going strong in the US.
As per an official statement from the makers, Godfather has now crossed the 1 million dollar mark in the US (collecting close to $1.1 million by the end of Monday). This is officially the third film of Chiranjeevi to achieve this feat at the USA box office. While Khaidi No. 150 and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy managed this in the past, this milestone comes as a relief for the fans of the star after a dud like Acharya earlier this year.
The makers are confident that GodFather's good run in the US will continue this weekend too, given there are no major releases in the Telugu market. Crazy Fellow, Neetho and Boyfriend for Hire aren't expected to pose any challenge to the Chiranjeevi starrer. On the whole, Godfather has crossed Rs 100 crore across the globe but trade pundits say it needs to do better to ensure a break-even for all the parties involved.
While Godfather released in the Hindi version on the same day as the Telugu version, the film is gearing up for a release in Tamil this weekend. Sunil, Shafi, Sarvadaman Banerjee, Brahmaji, Sammeta Gandhi are other key supporting actors in the political drama. With cinematography by Nirav Shah, the film was edited by Marthand K Venkatesh. Suresh Selvarajan was the art director and S Thaman had scored the tunes. Post its theatrical run, Godfather will stream on Netflix.
