The family entertainer, helmed by Arun Vaiga, is set to hit theatres on February 25
In the past few months, Malayalam cinema has already seen two films that revolve around weddings – Senna Hegde’s Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam and Akhil Anilkumar’s Archana 31 Not Out. Arun Vaiga’s Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan will be the third in the list, and the latest song from the movie shows the tone and setting of the movie.
Chillumani Kayalinte, rendered by composer Bijibal’s daughter Daya, is a beautiful track with complementing visuals of the protagonist’s family gearing up for the wedding. Saiju Kurup, who plays the titular character in the film, is the uncle of the bride in the movie, which also has Shabareesh Varma, Johny Antony and Siju Wilson.
The song’s video shows the events leading up to the wedding –the printing of the wedding cards, inviting relatives, NREGA workers cleaning the premises of the house, hiring photographers, painting the house and wedding shopping.
We also get to see a bit about Jayan’s rough and tough personality through the song, and also the tension in the bride’s face as the wedding day approaches.
In a recent interview with OTTplay, the film’s director Arun Vaiga told us that the film extensively covers a day of a Hindu wedding in Cherthala. Upacharapoorvam Gunda Jayan, which also has Jaffer Idukki and Sabumon Abdusamad in pivotal roles, had wrapped up its shoot two years ago and is produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films.
Saiju’s character is of a former goon, who now leads a peaceful family life. After a crisis during the wedding, the bride’s uncle steps up to see it through. Arun had also told us that he had modelled Jayan on the character of Anjooran from Siddique-Lal duo’s Godfather.
Apart from the male cast, most of the female actors are relative newcomers or debutants chosen from TikTok and Kudumbashree workers. Manju Warrier had recently released the poster featuring the female cast.
