Fighter - Chemistry jaisa kuch hai hi nahi between Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone

As the Ishq Jaisa Kuch song from Fighter is set to release tomorrow, I can’t fight the feeling that Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone make for an odd couple

Two beautiful people should make for a good-looking couple, right? Then why do Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone feel so odd as an onscreen couple? Not just aam junta, but actors will also agree that no one has a better body than Hrithik and the man only seems to look better as he ages. And who has a more commanding screen presence than Deepika? She can be accused of speeding up global warming by turning up the heat in the songs of her films (Besharam Rang, Doobey, Ang Laga De—do I need to list more?). So, is it just me or does Siddharth Anand bringing two of India’s best-looking people together for Fighter make my mind go, ‘Does not compute’?

The posters for the film are worth framing, with Hrithik, Deepika and Anil Kapoor stunning with their looks and swag. Then came the teaser, which also impressed since it mostly featured high-octane stunt flying. This was followed by the Sher Khul Gaye song. Granted that it is not a romantic number, but you are meant to see sparks fly between Hrithik and Deepika’s characters in the party song. Individually, they are both a treat to watch, but every time they are together onscreen, they just look like two very desirable people doing their own thing next to each other. What I am getting at is that there is no chemistry or spark between Hrithik and Deepika, and they are unconvincing as a couple.

And then there’s the poster for the Ishq Jaisa Kuch song from the film, which will be released tomorrow. Hrithik and Deepika in swimsuits on a beach? Oh, yes! But both of them together? Well, er, not so much. It’s just not doing it for me. As much as I wish that these two extremely attractive people would make my screen explode as they sizzle together, my fingers are tepid at best as I type this out. And that’s disappointing!

Just watch the video below and tell me that I am wrong! Is there something that I’m missing?

Hrithik and Deepika, Prove Me Wrong, Please!

I enjoy seeing two attractive people romance each other as much as anyone else. Deepika is a treat to watch with Ranveer Singh, and they legit burn up the screen. Hrithik and Katrina Kaif also seem to be perfectly matched. But, alas, Deepika and Hrithik can’t ignite the same amount of excitement. And you can’t blame this on their age difference. Hrithik is nearly a decade younger than Shah Rukh Khan but when Deepika is on screen with SRK, they seem to naturally fit together and you believe that they are a couple.

I have no doubts that Hrithik and Deepika will kick some serious a*s in Fighter, since both have shown that they can ace action sequences. And while that may turn out to be a treat to watch, I suspect that the same can’t be said about the seasoned actors turning up the romance in a way that can be accepted as true. So, does Deepika really share the best chemistry with Hrithik, according to her confession on the Koffe Kouch with Karan Johar on Koffee With Karan Season 8, or was it said just to promote her upcoming film? I suppose this will be answered tomorrow, when Fighter’s Ishq Jaisa Kuch song is released.
