Cheer season 2: Netflix drops surprising trailer for docuseries, announces streaming date

Netflix is all set to drop the second season of Cheer in January 2022. The streaming platform released the trailer for the series, showing Jerry Harris' teammates and Navarro coach Monica Aldama dealing with the fallout from his arrest. For the uninitiated, Harris was arrested last year on a slew of federal sexual misconduct charges, including soliciting child pornography.

As per reports in Variety, according to Netflix, Cheer addresses the allegations against Harris right away, and in an episode devoted to the allegations, the brothers who first came forward about Harris are interviewed.

As Season 2 begins and the buzz surrounding their newfound celebrity threatens to change the dynamic of Navarro Cheer, the team discovers that no amount of press can compare to the challenges they must face when COVID-19 upends the 2020 cheer season and a serious criminal accusation is leveled against one of their teammates.

Against that dramatic backdrop, the nine-episode season expands to feature Navarro's most ferocious rival: Trinity Valley Community College. TVCC, like the Navarro team, has a charismatic coach and breakout stars with struggles, triumphs, and stories that extend far beyond the mat.

As both teams vie for the championship in Daytona in 2021, familiar faces take compelling detours and new contenders make their mark. Greg Whiteley (Last Chance U) directs Season 2 of Cheer, which is produced by One Potato Productions and Boardwalk Pictures.

Cheer will reintroduce Monica Aldama, Lexi Brumback, Gabi Butler, La'Darius Marshall, and Morgan Simianer, as well as new Navarro competitors. TVCC's coach, Vontae Johnson, his assistant coach, Khris Franklin, and members of that team also join the cast. The second season of Cheer will consist of nine episodes, up from six in Season One.

The second season of Cheer began filming in secret in January 2020, as the show was becoming a sensation.
