While Malayalam actor Sreenath Bhasi has usually been associated with urban roles, the actor will be seen in a totally different avatar in Abhilash S Kumar’s upcoming film Chattambi, which has an ensemble cast.

The team released the second trailer of the raw and gritty thriller, which has Sreenath playing the role of an obdurate goon with a bone to pick with everyone. The thriller, which is set in the 90s, also stars Guru Somasundaram, Chemban Vinod Jose, Mythili, Binu Pappu and Grace Antony in pivotal roles.

The movie, which is currently set to hit theatres in Kerala on September 23, is based on true incidents that happened in 1994-95 in the State. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Abhilash had told us, “It’s inspired by real people who used to run illegal arrack distillation units and were loan sharks.”

The movie marks Minnal Murali actor Guru Somasundaram’s next big release in Malayalam and has him playing a Tamil character named Muniyandi. Chemban, Binnu and Sreenath play the main characters in the film and the story revolves around the changing dynamics between the trio.

The story, set in Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, is by Don Palathara, who had previously helmed 1956, Central Travancore. Salt N’ Pepper actress Mythili will also be making her comeback with the film “She plays the paramour of Chemban Vinod’s character and is also his business partner of sorts,” Abhilash had earlier said. Grace Antony, meanwhile, will be seen in the role of Chemban’s wife in the movie. Incidentally, Abhilash was earlier set to make his directorial debut with Simply Soumya, which had Grace and Sreenath Bhasi in the lead. The film was stalled due to the pandemic restrictions.

Meanwhile, Abhilash also explained that Sreenath will be seen essaying a raw character in the film, which gives him complete freedom to unleash the wild side of him as an actor.
