Chattambi first look poster reveals Sreenath Bhasi in a never-seen-before fiery, gritty avatar
The movie, directed by Abhilash S Kumar, also has Grace Antony, Chemban Vinod Jose, Mythili and Guru Somasundaram in pivotal roles

It’s surprising that just a few years ago, Sreenath Bhasi was thinking about quitting the film industry altogether. In the past two years alone, the actor has reinvented himself and has been taking up roles as different as chalk and cheese to carve a niche for himself in Malayalam cinema.
After his noteworthy roles in Rojin Thomas #Home and Amal Neerad’s Bheeshma Parvam earlier this year, the actor will next be seen in a raw and gritty avatar in Abhilash S Kumar’s directorial titled Chattambi.
The makers released the first look poster of the movie, which is set in 1995 in Idukki, and revealed the character that Sreenath will be playing. With overgrown hair and beard and smoking a beedi, the character is poles apart from the uber roles that Sreenath has mostly essayed on screen.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Abhilash, who had earlier co-scripted 22 Female Kottayam, Da Thadiya and Gangster, had told us that the movie is based on true incidents that happened in the 90s. “It’s inspired by people who in the 90s ran illegal arrack distillation units, were loan sharks and real-estate businessmen,” he said.
Sreenath plays a goon in the film and gets to showcase his raw and wild side as an actor in the film, Abhilash explained. Apart from Sreenath, Chattambi also has Grace Antony, Chemban Vinod Jose, Guru Somasundaram, Binu Pappu, Asif Yogi and Mythili, who will be making her comeback after several years. “The film explores the dynamics between the characters essayed by Sreenath, Chemban and Binu,” the filmmaker said.
Chattambi is based on a story by director Don Palathara, who was initially planning to helm the movie that is set in areas such as Vandanmedu and Chellarkovil near Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. The film is expected to release next month in theatres.
