The movie, which has Manju Warrier and Sunny Wayne in the lead, will release on the OTT platform on July 9,
Manju Warrier’s two releases this year – The Priest and Chathur Mukham – had supernatural elements. Both movies released in cinema halls and had enough thrills to warrant a theatrical experience. While The Priest released on OTTs in April, the audience had to wait longer for Chathur Mukham to drop on OTTs. With the movie now set to release on ZEE5 on July 9, we list the reasons the Malayalam film, which also has Sunny Wayne and Niranjana Anoop, is a must watch.
Mollywood’s first techno-horror film
The film is the first techno-horror movie in Malayalam and probably among the first such attempts in Indian cinema. The movie was also selected for the 25th Bucheon International Film Festival (BIFAN), South Korea, which is a genre film festival focusing on horror, mystery and fantasy movies. Chathur Mukham was in fact among the only three picked from India out of the 258 films selected from 47 countries.
Manju Warrier’s performance
While The Priest had her playing a ghost, Chathur Mukham has her essaying a role of a social media addict. Her character’s life takes a turn when she is forced to purchase a temporary phone that unleashes a series of supernatural events. The movie also had her performing action sequences. The film’s success once again proves why Manju is a lady superstar, capable of carrying the film, even as experimental as this, herself.
The movie’s directors Ranjeet and Salil
While Chathur Mukham is the debut directorial of Ranjeet Kamala Sankar and Salil V, the duo has a vast experience writing and assisting in several big hits. Salil had written Kohinoor and Anveshanam with Ranjeet. Both of them has also worked as ADs in Ranjith Sankar’s movies such as Punyalan Agarbattties, Varsham, and Salil has also assisted in Rohith VS’ Adventures of Omanakuttan.
Its relevant theme
Even though the movie has supernatural elements, it also focuses on a relevant theme of how much technology and social media influences people’s lives. The makers have used this concept while also lending an emotional depth through the certain experiences that people overlook or neglect due to the social media addiction and creating another image for yourself virtually.
