The actor shared her first look photos on her social media pages.
Six days after the premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Charlize Theron shared the first official image of herself as Clea, a character introduced in the Marvel Studios film's mid-credits scene.
The casting of Charlize Theron as Clea had been reported for a few weeks as word of the various surprises in Multiverse of Madness began to spread. However, this is the first time Theron has admitted that she is portraying the character. (There are some minor spoilers in the remainder of this story for Multiverse of Madness.)
While Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is going along the street, Theron emerges in full sorcerer garb. She informs him that his multiverse hopping antics in the film have resulted in an "incursion" between realities, which sounds bad. Clea wants Strange to join her in repairing the damage after breaking the fabric of reality to disclose a passage to the Dark Dimension, that is, her home.
In the Marvel comics, Clea is a fellow sorceress whose genealogy can be traced back to Dormammu, the Dark Dimension's overlord who battled Strange after 2016's Doctor Strange. (Dormammu is portrayed in that film by a semi-corporeal huge floating head, likewise voiced by Cumberbatch, but Clea is played by the flesh-and-blood Theron, who wears smokey magenta eye shadow.) Clea and Strange eventually marry, although Clea is forced to commute between the Dark Dimension and Strange's world, which puts a strain on their relationship.
It's unclear where Theron's Clea will fit into the MCU at this moment, but the post-credit scene hints she and Cumberbatch will star in the upcoming Doctor Strange film. Given that Theron is one of the most well-known actors to ever join the Marvel Studios family, Clea has a bright future in the MCU.
