We had told you P Vasu was directing Chandramukhi 2, a sequel to the Rajinikanth-starrer, which was released in 2005. Chandramukhi 2 will be headlined by Raghava Lawrence, and the latest buzz is that the makers are in talks with Andrea Jeremiah and Raashi Khanna. We hear either of them is likely to play the female lead. However, none of them has signed on the dotted line, yet.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Jyotika, Simran and Anushka Shetty were also approached to feature in the film.
The first part, which was produced by Sivaji Productions as its 50th film, also had Prabhu, Jyotika, Nayanthara, Nasser, and Vadivelu among others.
The remake of the Malayalam super hit Manichitrathazhu, Chandramukhiwas directed by P Vasu and went on to emerge as a phenomenal success.
Lawrence had, some time ago, announced that he would be acting in the sequel, but had gone on to name a different production house, as the producer. However, now, Lyca Productions has announced that it will be producing the project.
For now, we know Vadivelu has been roped in to play an important role in Chandramukhi 2. Although, it remains unknown at the moment if the actor will reprise his role from the original.
Chandramukhi 2 marks the return of P Vasu to the director’s seat in Tamil films after his last release Shivalinga (2017), which, coincidentally, featured Raghava Lawrence. The choreographer-director-actor made a name for himself acting in several horror comedies, notably carrying the Kanchana series of films.
Interestingly, in an interview with the Hindu, AR Murugadoss had said, Rajinikanth was okay with him directing a sequel to Chandramukhi. Murugadoss said, "I loved the character of Vettaiyan immensely. I asked Rajini sir if we could spin a story around Vettaiyan and the doctor character, Saravanan. He loved the idea and said yes. But then, as I thought about it, there were practical difficulties.”
