Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s Chander Pahar which features Dev in an iconic character Shankar — created by legendary author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay — is undoubtedly one of the highest-grossing films in the history of Bengali cinema. After its release in 2013, the film is all set to hit the big screen on September 20. According to the production house, this re-release is a tribute to the author's 130th birthday.

Besides Dev, the Kamaleswar film features Gérard Rudolf as Diego Alvarez, Shankar’s enigmatic companion in his African exploits, and Laboni Sarkar as Shankar’s mother. The film also features spectacular cinematography by Soumik Haldar, shot in the wilderness of South Africa, which remains one of its standout achievements.

Adapted from Bibhutibhushan’s thrilling novel, Chander Pahar follows the epic journey of Shankar Roy Chowdhury, a young Bengali adventurer who travels to Africa in search of fortune and faces wild dangers, mythical creatures, and untamed landscapes. The film's breathtaking depiction of Africa and its action-packed narrative captivated audiences far beyond Bengal, achieving remarkable success in non-traditional markets like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune when released in 2013.

In its press release, the production house stated, “With this re-release, SVF aims to bring Chander Pahar back to the big screen for both nostalgic viewers and a new generation eager to experience the magic of Shankar’s odyssey.”

It further mentioned, “Beyond its cinematic accolades, Chander Pahar also marked a global milestone for Bengali cinema, showcasing the industry’s ability to produce large-scale, visually stunning films that can resonate internationally. Its influence has left a lasting mark, and the re-release is expected to rekindle the excitement surrounding its original debut.”

Meanwhile, Dev is all set with his Puja release, Tekka – his second collaboration with Srijit Mukherji after Zulfiqar. The film, billed as a thriller, also features Rukmini Maitra and Swastika Mukherjee.
