Skipper Jiiva took the lead in the Chennai Rhinos' match against the Bhojpuri Dabanggs

The Bhojpuri Dabanggs that is playing the Celebrity Cricket League this season does not seem like the team that won all its group stage matches and gave the Telugu Warriors a tough fight in the finale last year. They seem completely out of sorts and got handed their second straight defeat. Playing the Chennai Rhinos, a team against which the Dabanggs actually had a good track record, having won all previous encounters, the latter was left floundering, giving the former a resounding victory that has kept them at the top of the points table.

In the absence of skipper Arya, Jiiva led the Chennai Rhinos, and, having won the toss, he elected to sent the Bhojpuri Dabanggs in to bat first. The Dabanggs not only lost wickets at regular intervals, but were also never able to put any sort of pressure on the Rhinos’ bowlers. Eventually, they posted the lowest innings total yet in the tournament, a distinction that the Karnataka Bulldozers held for their first innings score against the Mumbai Heroes. Dabanggs got to 59 for the loss of 7 wickets in 10 overs, with Aditya Ojha and Uday the only two with double-digit scores.

The Chennai Rhinos, who are currently at the top of the points table in terms of run-rate, were determined to maintain status quo and got cracking on it, securing a first innings score of 92 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, giving them a 33-run lead heading into the second innings. With only 10 overs, getting over a deficit and then setting a decent target to chase was going to be a tough deal for the Dabanggs.

Manoj Tiwari’s boys tried and got to 85 for the loss of 4, which, under better circumstances would have been a good total to defend. For the Dabanggs, though, this meant that the Rhinos could take it very easy at 5 runs per over asking rate only, with a target of 51 runs. But Jiiva was in no mood to stretch the match out to its full length, top scoring at 20 of 14 balls and leading the team to victory in the 6th over.

The second match on March 1 has defending champions Telugu Warriors hoping to make the most of the home ground advantage and taking on Sonu Sood’s Punjab De Sher. All matches are being streamed on JioCinema.
