CBI 5 – The Brain gets release date; Mammootty to return as Sethurama Iyer soon

The upcoming fifth instalment in the CBI film franchise, is directed by K Madhu, who has also helmed the previous four films. Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar will also reprise their roles from the earlier films.

The wait to see Mammootty to return as the iconic Sethurama Iyer is finally over as CBI 5 – The Brain has finally got a release date. The makers have unveiled the release date for the highly awaited film today.

Megastar Mammootty also shared the news on his official Facebook page, which included a poster of him as Sethurama Iyer, a character the star last portrayed more than 15 years ago. The upcoming film will be 2 hours and 42 minutes long, and has received a U/A certificate.

CBI 5 – The Brain will be released in theatres on May 1, 2022.

The upcoming film is the fifth instalment in the CBI film franchise. Almost 35 years old, the franchise started with the 1988 film Oru CBI Diarykurippu, followed by Jagratha (1989), Sethurama Iyer CBI (2004) and Nerariyan CBI (2005). Oru CBI Diarykurippu, Nerariyan CBI can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar. Jagratha and Sethurama Iyer CBI can be watched onn EROS Now.

In addition to Mammootty reprising his role as Iyer, returning cast members include Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar. The latter will make his first on-screen appearance in almost a decade, following an accident in 2012 that had left him paralysed.

Anoop Menon, Soubin Shahir, Ramesh Pisharody, Kaniha, Asha Sharath, Renji Panicker, Sai Kumar, Malavika Menon, Prashanth Alexander and Dileesh Pothan will also essay pivotal roles in the new film.

K. Madhu, who has helmed the first four films, returns as director for CBI 5. S. N. Swami who served as screenwriter for the previous instalments has also penned the script for the new film. Jakes Bejoy has composed the music for the film, which is produced under the banner of Swargachitra Films.
