Henry Cavill and Dwayne Johnson's MCU Future Update

The way we are all now hooked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially after a brief period of less successful releases, is quite interesting. It took a successful fan-service movie to bring the audience back to theaters and reignite interest in the MCU. Yes, we’re talking about Deadpool & Wolverine which was released on July 26 and is still going strong at the box office, having earned over a billion dollars. Marvel Studios is clearly capitalizing on this momentum and is likely to continue exploring the film’s success and branching it out into the larger MCU. One of the most exciting aspects of the movie was Henry Cavill’s appearance as a Wolverine variant. That’s not all—there are also rumors that Dwayne Johnson is still in the running to play Apocalypse in the MCU.

Henry Cavill’s MCU Future Update

For those who haven’t caught up yet—if this is still a spoiler for you, are you even a fan?—Henry Cavill made his long-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as a Wolverine variant, affectionately dubbed "Cavillrine" by Ryan Reynolds and fans alike. Cavill appeared in just one scene without any dialogue, but fans were quick to speculate that this was far from a one-time appearance, and that Marvel has bigger plans for him. It turns out those speculations might be true.

According to a scoop from My Time To Shine Hello Henry Cavill isn’t done with the MCU after his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine. It seems that Marvel Studios has plans for Cavill moving forward, although the specifics remain under wraps.

As per Comic Book Movie Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy commented on Cavill’s involvement, saying, “If we’re going to talk about him, we must call him by his actual credited name, ‘The Cavillrine,’ which Ryan coined. I knew it was undeniable as soon as Ryan came up with that term. Cavill said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful. It was also done with a lot of affection for him and his body of work, playing off his legacy as a DC hero now that he’s appearing as a variant of a Marvel hero.”

Dwayne Johnson as Apocalypse

The same source also provides an update on Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, who has been rumored to join the MCU for quite some time. One persistent rumor is that Johnson was being considered for the role of Apocalypse, although it didn’t materialize at the time. However, it appears that the idea is still on the table, and Marvel Studios is reportedly still eyeing Johnson for the role.

That being said, it remains to be seen if this will come to fruition, especially after Johnson faced setbacks at DC following the cancellation of Black Adam 2 after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as heads of DC Studios.
