Reports suggest that Lady Gaga could appear as Harley Quinn in the sequel to the 2019 film Joker.
Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix released in 2019 and went on to be one of the best performing movies of the year. With the psychological drama becoming a fan-favourite, the excitement about a sequel quickly built once it was announced. Director Todd Phillips has now announced that Lady Gaga will also star in the sequel.
The movie makers have now released a short musical teaser to make the announcement. Phillips shared the video on Instagram earlier today and wrote “Cheek to Cheek. 10.04.24.”
While the video does not give away anything related to the film, it does confirm that Lady Gaga will star in the sequel. The video also has parts of the song Cheek to Cheek used in it, and it is a song that Gaga has previously covered in her career. There have also been a number of reports that suggested earlier this year that Gaga would star in the sequel and that the film would be a musical.
Other reports also say that Gaga could play the role of Harley Quinn in the sequel. The sequel’s title was mentioned as ‘Folie à Deux’ by the director, and this is a phrase that refers to a shared delusional disorder, and in the Joker’s case, Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn is a fan-favorite DC character and Margot Robbie has essayed the role in three different movies.
Phillips’ Joker became a massive box office success despite only receiving mixed reviews and went on to collect over $1 billion at the box office. The movie also went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Original Score. The movie also features Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, and Brett Cullen in important roles.
