Sanjay Dutt in K.G.F: Chapter 2 and Shamshera

The trailer of Shamshera is here and the internet cannot help but gush over the period epic starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor. The film has been directed by Karan Malhotra and will follow Ranbir’s titular character who leads a dacoit tribe against British rule in the late 19th century. Sanjay Dutt, who was last seen as the mighty nemesis of Rocky Bhai in K.G.F: Chapter 2, will play the antagonist in the film as the rather vibrant Daroga Shuddh Singh. However, the fanfare around Shamshera isn’t devoid of comparisons with the Kannada film as the internet casts a keen eye on the similarities between the two films – from Ranbir Kapoor’s rugged, bearded look to the visual palette of the Hindi film, the subtle resemblances seem to have been duly noted.

And with Sanjay Dutt being the common factor, in this case, the actor was questioned about the potential similarities at the trailer launch event. The question mainly pertained to his character and whether it could be compared to Adheera, the role he played in the Prashanth Neel film. Dutt wasn’t to be found off-guard though as he quickly quashed the speculations by saying that both the characters are totally different from one another, in that Daroga Shuddh Singh is a fun character while Adheera came with a lot of intensity.

“There are no similarities between the two. KGF (Adheera) was quite intense while Shuddh Singh is more fun, exciting, and very conniving. These are two totally different films thouggh” said Sanjay Dutt at the press meet.

The stark likeness in the visual palette of K.G.F: Chapter 2 and Shamshera too has become a subject of discussion among the netizens. Vast, barren lands swamped with fatigue and despair that are controlled by the whip of dictator feature in both films except that the Ranbir Kapoor features the British rule as its backdrop while the Kannada film was set mostly in a fictional world. Kapoor’s overgrown beard look in the poster also drew the comparison, but with Ranveer Singh’s avatar in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period epic Padmavat
