The 1998 film also featured Kader Khan, Johnny Lever, Prem Chopra and Asrani.
After making his mark in the industry for his formidable acting prowess, Shah Rukh Khan seems to have set his sights to do the same as a producer as well. The actor had established his home production banner, Red Chillies Entertainment, back in 2002, with his wife Gauri Khan. The banner has had its name attached to a number of popular productions, including Badla, Darlings, Love Hostel, Bob Biswas and more. And it seems that the banner is eyeign yet another intriguing project. It was recently reported that SRK recently bagged the rights to the 1998 Govinda and Raveena Tandon starrer film Dulhe Raja.
A source told Pinkvilla that Khan was a huge fan of films in the comedy genre and the 1998 film was the kind of ‘popcorn entertainer’ that he liked. One of the actor’s associates had suggested the idea of acquiring the ‘blanket rights’ for the film, and Khan came on board immediately.
The team was reportedly trying to figure out how they can explore Dulhe Raja, keeping in mind the present day audiences. The report also stated that both the satellite and digital rights also rested with Khan and his company, who were planning on selling the same to partners and get good returns from the renewal of licence.
The deal for the film was reportedly locked a while back, and Farhad Samji had been working on a draft of the film’s remake as well, which was a work in progress at the moment. The director was reportedly told to script a ‘fresh’ screenplay that also retained the world of the original film as well.
If the screenplay turned out to be a ‘faithful’ adaptation and the actors were also interested, the production banner would consider to remake the film. If not, the banner would be satisfied with the revenue generated by the film’s TV and digital screenings.
Dulhe Raja is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Jio Cinema.
