Following the success of Aranyak on Netflix and Rocket Boys on Sony LIV, RKF have announced eight new projects by Shershaah’s director Vishnuvardhan, Hardik Mehta of Decoupled fame and others.
Siddharth Roy Kapur's production company, Roy Kapur's Films RKF, has enjoyed back-to-back success with its digital shows Aranyak on Netflix and Rocket Boys on SonyLIV. Now, the production house has just announced another set of new series for 2022/23. Eight great directors will develop historical epics to strong family dramas for the production house, which will premiere on OTT.
Vishnuvardhan, the director of Sidharth Malhotra-Kiara Advani’s film, Shershaah the highest streamed blockbuster of 2021, is gearing up to make his series directorial debut with a grand epic action drama that will span numerous seasons and portray the intriguing narrative of a vital aspect of India's 20th century military history.
Mahesh Narayanan, regarded as one of the brightest young filmmakers in the Malayalam film industry, will helm a multi-season thriller set in the Middle East and South Asia. He had a wonderful year with India's first screen-life feature C U Soon starring Fahadh Faasil and an incredible political thriller, Malik, also starring Faasil.
Hardik Mehta, the celebrated director of the bittersweet comedy Kaamyaab and the blockbuster Netflix programme Decoupled will helm a dramatic family series, set in Europe, Africa, and India in the elite and exclusive world of controversial family businesses.
Abbas Tyrewala, the writer of Maqbool and Main Hoon Na made the directorial debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. The filmmaker will develop and direct an appealing spy action drama series for RKF, based on the mysterious world of South Asian counter-intelligence.
Matka King, based on the intriguing world of the gambling game "matka" and the dangerous and smart men who managed it, will be made by the renowned director of Sairat Nagraj Manjule.
Arati Kadav, who is the creator of the sci-fi film Cargo will also be developing a new romantic sci-fi genre for the production company. Popular ad filmmaker Bhavesh Kapadia will make his directorial debut with a chaotic and engaging female-led comedic thriller series.
Anubhav Chopra, who received critical acclaim for his Netflix documentary House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths will create and direct a young adult drama series based on the high-pressure atmosphere of today's high school.
RKF production house said in its statement that it believes in not only giving them a platform to promote new talents, but also in introducing directorial debutants alongside renowned artists in the industry. “With these eight phenomenal series, we are prepared to bring audiences a smorgasbord of riveting stories. We're looking forward to training our lenses on different worlds with these talented filmmakers, and delving into the psyches of intriguing, layered and compelling characters,” said Jinesh Shah, the original RKF's head.
Meanwhile, RKF has interesting line-up projects to be released. It has films Pippa, featuring Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur; Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan? starring Pratik Gandhi and Taapsee Pannu; and Bas Karo Aunty!, starring Mahima Makwana and Ishwak Singh. The production house also has the highly anticipated Season 2 of Rocket Boys for SonyLIV.
