Ajith's AK 61 is another movie which is likely to join the race,
Ravi with Ahmed; a still from Sardar
Jayam Ravi's Jana Gana Mana, a spy thriller which has Ahmed at its helm, had to be put on hold after the pandemic-imposed restrictions which hit many countries. The shooting of the movie was planned in many foreign locations, but the team had to postpone shooting with no other option left for them.
The actor-director duo then planned to join forces for another project titled Iraivan. Though many details pertaining to the project are not yet out, we hear that they are planning for a Deepavali release this year.
If everything goes well, the movie will have a box office clash with Karthi's Sardar, the theatrical rights of which have been bought by Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies. An official announcement on the former's release is expected to be made soon by makers.
Yuvan Shankar Raja has scored music for the project which brings together Ravi and Nayanthara after the blockbuster Thani Oruvan (streaming on Jio Cinema and Sun NXT).
Ravi's next release will be Kalyana Krishnan's Agilan which is set to hit the screens in September. The much-awaited Mani Ratnam directorial Ponniyin Selvan which has him playing a lead role is also said to be a September release. The actor's last theatrical release was three years ago.
It has to be seen if more films will announce Deepavali release this year. Ajith's AK 61 (tentative title), directed and produced by Vinoth and Boney Kapoor respectively, began by announcing as a theatrical release for the festival. The producer hinted at the same recently, too, at the audio launch of Veetla Vishesham.
The digital rights of Sardar were bagged by aha Tamil a while ago. AK 61 is likely to stream on Zee5 after a month of its theatrical release. Watch this space to know details about the digital partner of Iraivan.
