Govinda Naam Mera is Varun Dhawan's Mr Lele repackaged.
Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar’s upcoming film Govinda Naam Mera is likely to skip its theatrical release. The movie will reportedly head for a direct-to-OTT release. Karan is likely to opt the OTT way for a specific reason.
A report on BollywoodLife suggests that since Govinda Naam Mera has been delayed since a long time, Karan does not want to delay it any further. Since all the movies have blocked theatrical dates, the producer is likely to release Govinda Naam Mera directly-on-OTT.
A little birdie further told the publication that the movie has not shaped up as expected. Thus, releasing it at a time when there is already a lot of competition in theatres, might not be an ideal move. Thus, the Vicky Kaushal-starrer could stream on OTT sometime soon.
Also starring Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles, Govinda Naam Mera was a last-minute project. The film was previously titled Mr. Lele and was supposed to feature Varun Dhawan and Kiara in the lead roles. However, eventually, the film was renamed and remodelled for it to become Govinda Naam Mera.
It is still not certain why Varun left the project after working with Shashank Khaitan on Humpty Sharma and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Mr Lele was written keeping Varun in mind and thus, Govinda Naam Mera had to be repackaged to make it a Vicky Kaushal film instead.
Govinda Naam Mera marks Vicky’s second collaboration with Karan Johar after Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship. The movie also featured Bhumi as the female lead, much like Govinda Naam Mera.
