Buzz: Ghani, Varun Tej’s sports drama, to release on aha and Netflix on this date?

Varun Tej had impressed fans with his physical makeover for Ghani and the movie hit theatres on April 8. The latest buzz about the movie’s OTT release.

According to Telugu Bulletin, Ghani will start streaming on its digital streaming partners aha and Netflix from the 29th of this month.

An early OTT clause has reportedly been put on the movie according to the report, which would mean that the sports drama arrives on OTT three weeks post its theatrical release. There has been no official confirmation about the film’s OTT release date yet.

Directed by debutant Kiran Korrapati, the movie also has Mahesh Manjrekar's daughter Saiee Manjrekar in the lead. The movie also stars Naveen Chandra, Naresh, Jagapathi Babu, Suneil Shetty, Nadhiya and Upendra, among others.

The movie was released with a lot of hype, with fans impressed with the actor’s physical transformation to play a boxer. Though the movie received mixed reviews, Upendra’s performance and S. Thaman’s music was pointed out as the only positives.

“There's nothing original or breathtaking about Ghani. It doesn't rise above the cliches of a regular sports drama - the writing is weak and the performances are mechanical, passionless. If the rest of the cast believed in Ghani as much as Upendra did in his brief cameo, you may have seen a different film.” reads the movie’s review on OTTplay.

Bankrolled by Sidhu Mudda and Allu Bobby under the banners of Renaissance Pictures and Allu Bobby Company, the movie has cinematography by George C. Williams and is edited by Marthand K Venkatesh.

The movie, which was released amidst the RRR storm, failed to impress at the box office. Ghani collected Rs. 6 crores in its first two days.
