Kappela, the much-appreciated Malayalam film starring Anna Ben, Roshan Mathew, is getting a Telugu remake titled Butta Bomma. Popular child actress Anikha Surendran plays the lead role in the film that also features Surya Vashistta and Arjun Das in key roles. Butta Bomma is helmed by first-time filmmaker Shourie Chandrasekhar Ramesh. The film will hit theatres on January 26, 2023.
Two leading production houses in Telugu cinema, Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, are backing the film. Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Sounjanya (better half of filmmaker Trivikram) are the producers. Navya Swami, Narra Srinu, Pammi Sai, Karthik Prasad, Vasu Inturi, Mirchi Kiran, Kancharapalem Kishore and Madhumani play supporting roles in Butta Bomma.
A partially black-and-white poster featuring Anikha Surendran, Surya Vashistta and Arjun Das was launched to announce the release date. The teaser of the rural romance was unveiled a few weeks ago and received good responses from film buffs and critics. While Butta Bumma may be called a small-budget film on paper, there’s great chance that it could spring a surprise among audiences.
The story of Butta Bomma revolves around a girl Satya, an innocent rural girl, who accidentally dials a man’s number and gradually falls in love. When she decides to meet him, another stranger enters their lives to lend a twist to the tale beyond their imagination. Former media personality, Ganesh Kumar Ravuri, who turned a writer with Varudu Kaavalenu, pens the dialogues for Butta Bomma.
With cinematography by Vamsi Patchipulusu, the film has music by Gopi Sundar, with Shreemani and S Bharadwaja Pathrudu writing the lyrics. Navin Nooli is the editor while Vivek Annamalai is the production designer. Kappela, the Malayalam original that inspired the film, was widely watched on OTT during lockdown. One can watch the rural drama on Netflix.
