Anna Ben’s Malayalam hit Kappela was remade in Telugu as Butta Bomma. Produced by S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film starred Anikha Surendran, Arjun Das and debutant Surya Vashissta in key roles. Butta Bomma, which released on February 4, marked the directorial debut of Shourie Chandrashekhar Ramesh, which had music by Gopi Sundar and Sweekar Agasthi.
Butta Bomma, set against the backdrop of Doodikonda, Vizag, revolves around Satya (Anikha Surendran), a college dropout who mistakenly dials an auto driver named Murali (Surya Vasishta). This wrong call brings them closer and over time, they fall in love. Going against her parents’ wishes, she decides to elope with Murali and leaves for Vizag.
However, a twist in the tale changes the world of the couple upside down and Satya is left in no man’s land. What’s in store for Murali and Satya? How does a goon enter their lives? Watch the film to know more. After a brief theatrical run, Butta Bomma is coming to OTT. Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights of the rural drama and is slated to premiere the film on March 4.
The Telugu film received mixed reviews upon release and many critics labelled it a pale version of the original though most critics hailed the performances of Anikha Surendran and Arjun Das. With cinematography by Vamsi Patchipulusu, Butta Bomma is edited by Navin Nooli. Ganesh Kumar Ravuri, who penned the dialogues of Varudu Kavalenu, is the writer. Navya Swamy also essayed an important role in the drama.
