Director David Leitch discusses his upcoming action movie Bullet Train's battle sequences, citing Jackie Chan as a major influence.
Jackie Chan, who is known for his action movies and martial arts, has inspired many. So, it may not come as a surprise that he has also had a huge influence on Brad Pitt’s upcoming movie, Bullet Train. Director David Leitch recently opened up about the battle scenes in the movie and cited Jackie Chan as a major influence.
The makers had recently released the trailer of the film, which shows some of the physical humor that will be used in different battle scenes and action sequences. One scene featured Pitt's Ladybug and Brian Tyree Henry's Lemon fighting hand-to-hand in the locomotive's Quiet Room and attempting to shoot each other, while another featured Ladybug and Aaron Taylor-Tangerine Johnson's fighting in the close quarters of the train's snack cart and using various foods and silverware against each other.
As the director reportedly revealed that the film is inspired by the actor and martial artist, Jackie Chan, Bullet Train becomes the latest movie to use his fighting style after the Marvel film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which hired a supervisor from Chan’s stunt team.
Bullet Train revolves around Ladybug, played by Brad Pitt, an assassin who is having an existential crisis and wants to leave the crime world behind until he is dragged back by his handler, Sandra Bullock's Maria Beetle, to retrieve a briefcase aboard a bullet train. He is then put in the middle of a group of competing assassins with related jobs.
Apart from Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock, the film also features Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz, Logan Lerman, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon, and Bad Bunny in the ensemble cast. Bullet Train is finally poised to visit theaters this July, following repeated delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
Meanwhile, the filmmaker Leitch is known for blockbuster movies like Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Bullet Train is Leitch’s latest venture while he simultaneously executive produces the John Wick sequels and a range of other projects with his wife and creative partner, Kelly McCormick.
