Netflix recently released the trailer of Halle Berry's upcoming sports drama Bruised. The film stars the actor as a former MMA fighter Jackie Justice "who reclaims her power, in and out of the ring, when everyone has counted her out."
Bruised, which premiered at the recent Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), also marks Berry's directorial debut.
According to Netflix, Jackie is a disgraced MMA champion, who is made to enter an underground fighting ring years later by her manager and boyfriend Desi (Adan Canto). There she's spotted by fight league promoter (Shamier Anderson) and she gets a chance to redeem her career.
But there's more to this journey than just a comeback. While on the road, she meets Manny (Danny Boyd Jr) she reconnects with her estranged son whom she had to give up.
Berry, known for a variety of roles like Storm in the X-Men franchise, the thriller Gothika and romantic drama Monster's Ball that won her a Best Actress Oscar, leaves a lasting impression of her acting skills in the brief trailer video. Joining her in this film are Adriane Lenox, Sheila Atim, Valentina Shevchenko, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.
Berry had spoken to Variety about her film at TIFF: “I’m more encouraged that as women, we are feeling confident enough to tell our stories. And there is a place for us to tell our stories. For so long, our experiences have been told narratively through the guise of men.”
Netflix will release Bruised on November 24.
