Abhinay Deo's upcoming web series Brown stars Karisma Kapoor in the titular role.
Abhinay Deo may have just joined the OTT bandwagon, but he has already had success. Last week, the director's first web series, Brown was shown for the first time at the Berlinale Series Market Selects. Even though the Karisma Kapoor series is his first foray into digital entertainment, he worries that the Indian OTT market isn't living up to the promise it showed when it first started.
According to Deo, many content producers have started to adhere to the constrictive rules of the theatre industry, even if long-format storytelling allows a director to explore stories that might not find an audience on the big screen.
The filmmaker told Mid Day that in both good and negative ways, they are now. It's advantageous since the format gives people so many more options. Yet, OTT content has begun to stagnate at the same time. That was once a means through which they may have produced outstanding cinema. But all of a sudden, the demand for large numbers is taking over. So, they need to hire prominent performers for the roles. Sadly, they are adopting the same format as traditional movies. Deo hopes that if OTT develops more, it will reach a better point.
After Brown the director was asked if a sequel to Delhi Belly (2011) was in the works. Fans have been asking for a sequel for a long time, but the director hasn't made any plans to make another one. Deo says that from the time Delhi Belly came out until now, people have asked him about a sequel. The filmmaker's process for creating movies is organic because he thinks a good story needs to find him.
Talking about Brown the series is the second outing for Karisma on OTT after Mentalhood (2020). It's an adaptation of a novel titled City of Death by Abheek Barua. Helen, Soni Razdan, Surya Sharma, and KK Raina also play important roles in the series.
