Prithviraj Sukumaran’s second directorial Bro Daddy, starring Mohanlal in the lead, couldn’t be more different from his debut venture Lucifer. While the latter is a grim political thriller with intense characters and weighty dialogues, Bro Daddy’s first teaser promises a breezy and enjoyable tale about a family.

The teaser, which was revealed through the social media pages of Mohanlal and Prithviraj on today, starts off with Mohanlal's character John Kattadi talking to his son Eesho (Prithviraj) about what happened when Lalu Alex's character Kurian had come to his mother's (Meena) place to propose to her when she was young. The teaser also hints that Eesho is now in love with Kurian's daughter Anna (Kalyani Priyadarshan), who is apparently named after his mother Annamma.

The video promises a delightful joyride packed with eclectic characters including Soubin Shahir's Happy Pinto, Unni Mukundan's Cyril and Mallika Sukumaran, who plays Kurian's mother in the movie.

In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Prithviraj had said that given that the content that has been produced in the past two years were mostly dark thrillers, the audience is looking forward for a “happy film” and he personally wanted to do a movie that “puts a smile on you face and you laugh through it”. So, it was almost a no-brainer for him to choose Bro Daddy as his second directorial when Sreejith N and Bibin Malieckal narrated the story to him.

The movie is a multi-starrer that has Mohanlal and Prithviraj playing father and son respectively. Prithviraj will be playing a full-length role along with Mohanlal in the film, unlike in Lucifer in which he had an extended cameo.

Bro Daddy, which is produced by Antony Perumbavoor, also has Kalyani Priyadarshan, Kaniha, Meena, Soubin Shahir, Nikhila Vimal, Lalu Alex, Jagadish and Unni Mukundan in pivotal roles. The film was entirely shot in Hyderabad with Abhinandan Ramanujan as its cinematographer and Deepak Dev as the film’s composer.

Earlier this month, Mohanlal told OTTplay that the movie has a humour-driven story and that the team had spared no expenses in ensuring that it looked visually appealing. The actor also hoped, given the pan-Indian appeal of Lucifer, people would be urged to stream the movie when it releases directly on Disney+ Hotstar.

Bro Daddy marks Mohanlal’s second direct-to-OTT release after Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2. While the date of release is yet to be officially announced, it’s rumoured to drop on January 26.
