The show has been extended for a third and fourth season.
Bridgerton is a Netflix original period drama series set in the early mid-1800s. The series' plot is set during the Regency era in England and is about eight close siblings from a noble family who are seeking to find love. The show has had a successful run for two seasons and has been renewed for two more. The show is also being appreciated for bringing a few societal issues to the forefront.
The first season, which premiered on December 25, 2020, centres on the love story of Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset. The second season centres on the love story of Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest brother, and Kate Sharma.
Since the series focuses on various social facets of Nobel British society, it brought forth some important issues that women even today face. Season 2 also shows the story of a supporting character, Portia Freatherington, whose husband dies. She was more concerned about who would take over the Freatherington property after his death as she had three young daughters and the law in the queen's country is that only a male successor can inherit his father's rights and assets. This societal issue is depicted clearly in the series.
Lady Liza Campbell, a noblewoman herself, is known for shedding attention on topics such as these. Charlotte Carew Pole, who married into nobility, whose first child was a girl was said to be made to feel guilty for giving birth to her. The two, among many other women, are fighting the cause even today.
Pole approached The Hares and quickly renamed the campaign Daughter's Right. They draft another bill that was submitted to Parliament in April, but the law expired since it was not approved by the House by the end of the year. Charlotte told Insider that they will resubmit it in the next session, which begins in May.
The two activists who are championing the cause have also thanked the Netflix series for highlighting the issue and creating awareness.
