Bratya Basu is ready with his gang-war film, Hubba, with Mosharraf Karim in lead

Hubba Shyamal was the terror of Hooghly in the ’90s. He was called the Dawood Ibrahim of Hooghly. There were 30 registered police cases against him, including murder, kidnapping, and narcotics smuggling. People say that he used to have 70 mobile phones. He was caught three times by the cops but got released on bail each time. Hubba Shyamal suddenly went missing in 2011.

Now his life is made into a biopic, named Hubba, directed by Bratya Basu. The popular Bangladeshi actor Mosharraf Karim plays the protagonist. The film's producer Firdausul Hasan said that the film will be released soon.

Mosharraf appeared in Bratya's previous film Dictionary also. His acting is acclaimed in both the Bengals. Why is he as Hubba Shyamal? Aajkaal Dot In asked the producer and he replied, “Mosharraf Karim is a terrific actor and fits any character comfortably. He is chosen because he will suit the character. He acted well. The audience will say the rest.” Mosharraf's makeup also helped him look like Hubba Shyamal.

The shooting started in September 2022. Mosharraf's look was released at that time. Indraneil Sengupta played the character of a police officer. Poulomi Basu and Lokenath Dey played other important roles in the film.

Meanwhile, Arindam Bhattacharya’s Shibpur is all set to release. His film is also a political thriller, based on true events in gang wars in Howrah. Is Bratya's film the pioneer in this genre?

The producer said, “I did not watch Shibpur and hence cannot comment. Bratya, after making a relationship story, wanted to deliver a film with a different taste. His film Dictionary got the Gautam Buddha Award as the best feature film in Nepal International Film Festival. he already made five films. I have my faith in Bratya Basu. Hence, I agreed when he wanted to take a new path.”
