Netflix’s Brand New Cherry Flavor promises to be a grim, disturbing horror revenge thriller - at least that’s what we gathered from the latest teaser of the limited series that stars Rosa Salazar of Alita: Battle Angel fame.
The story, which is set in the 90s, follows an aspiring film director in Los Angeles. Following a betrayal, the hopeful director is set on a mind-altering journey for revenge, which can only be described as a nightmare. The trailer reveals everything from what looks like zombies to weird cats in a supernatural world.
Netflix has announced the series will release on the platform on August 13. Brand New Cherry Flavor releasing on Friday the 13th looks like no coincidence as it will be the adaptation of Todd Grimson’s eponymous horror novel.
The upcoming Netflix limited series is written and executive produced by Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion, who brought the horror anthology Channel Zero. Brand New Cherry Flavor will have eight episodes, each around one hour long.
The series also stars Catherine Keener, Eric Lange, Manny Jacinto and Jeff Ward along with Hannah Levien, Leland Orser and Patrick Fischler.
Rosa’s career has been on an upward climb in Hollywood. The Peruvian French-Canadian actress garnered attention with her roles in The Divergent Series: Insurgent, The Maze Runner movies and Netflix’s Bird Box. With Alita: Battle Angel, she made her lead in a major studio project. The adaptation of the popular Manga Gunnm was directed by Robert Rodriguez and co-written by James Cameron.
