Kolkata girl musician Antaraa Bhataacharya is known for her work in films like Bramhastra, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, and Operation Mayfair. Now, the young singer showcased her versatility by writing, composing, and singing her debut indie single, Dhaage.

In fact, for Antaraa, the month of May is significantly special. Apart from the release of her debut Hindi indie single, Dhaage, which is already creating noise on the airwaves, the singer has lent her voice to SVF Music’s RNT Project Chapter 2, which is a fitting tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary, offering a modern twist to the traditional Rabindra Sangeet through a unique and memorable musical journey.

Trained under Pt. Ajoy Chakraborty, Antaraa has been a member of popular Bollywood composer Pritam’s team. She never thought she would turn into a music composer. According to her, a tune came to her suddenly while doing her morning riyaz. “Without wasting time, I recorded it. Soon, I found myself composing the antara and then, I even wrote the lyrics in a jiffy. I shared it with my music producer Nikhil and he truly liked it. Then I made the whole song and wrote the lyrics,” said the singer, who was born and brought up in Ichhapur, West Bengal.

Antaraa always finds comfort in teaming up with Nikhil. Having been “music mates” since 2019, the duo has more than 12 releases under their belt namely Vasundhara, Sunn Maahi, and Dil Ki Baatein. Today, the creators enjoy over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. In fact, Antaraa doesn’t mince words when she mentions that Nikhil has been her “big supporter” in the journey of Dhaage.

For any singer, it is indeed a moment of pride and prestige to receive training from the legendary Pt Ajoy Chakraborty. Antaraa has been fortunate to have been trained by the legend and also by Rathijit Bhattacharya. Later, when she moved to Mumbai, she joined popular Bollywood composer Pritam’s team and was part of the team responsible for the background score of films like ‘Brahmastra’ and ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani’. She was part of the Guinness Book of World Records for being in the Largest Indian Cinematic Music Band under Pritam.

Elaborating on her experience of working with Pritam, she said, “I was a part of Pritamda’s chorus team. The background score of ‘Brahmastra’ was a huge task and I am happy to be a part of that. I have learnt many things working on it.”

It goes without saying that Antaraa has a strong connection with the Bengali music fraternity. Having worked with musicians like Savvy, Ssuvam Moitra, and Arindom, Antaraa now wants to work with senior composer Indraadip Das Gupta. “His songs are pure nostalgia to me and I am looking forward to working with him. It’s been my childhood dream,” she said. And she added how her parents have been the biggest supporters all through her musical journey. “Whatever I'm today is because of my parents,” Antaraa said.
