Bramayugam will release in theatres in Kannada, while Malaikottai Vaaliban drops on OTT

This week, the options available in the Kannada-dubbed content space are quite exciting, provided the quality of dubbing is good. It’s Mammotty vs Mohanlal this week, as the former brings his latest to theatres, while the latter’s film is headed to OTT. For Kannada audiences, for who the last OTT release was Kaatera, these options should look exciting. Bad Manners and Kshetrapathi, which were believed to be headed to OTT in February are yet to drop.

Coming to theatres in Kannada is Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s latest, Bramayugam, which opened with rave reviews when the original released on February 15. Directed by Rahul Sadasivan, best known for his earlier work, Bhoothakalam, Bramayugam is a survival thriller that also stars Arjun Ashokan and Siddharth Bharathan in pivotal roles. The film, shot in black and white, also explores the power of politics and releases in theatres on February 23.

On OTT, there are two options. For starters, there is Malaikottai Vaaliban, the Mohanlal-led Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial, which did not have a great run at the box office. A period action drama, Malaikottai Vaaliban opened to mixed reviews, with fans of the filmmaker loving every moment, while hardcore fans of the actor were not quite sold. The film also stars Danish Sait, Harish Peradi, Sonalee Kulkarni, Katha Nandi, Sanjana Chandran and Manoj Moses, among others. The film will be available on Disney+ Hotstar on February 23.

Up next is the eight-part web series Poacher by director Richie Mehta, which has Bollywood actor Alia Bhat on board as executive producer. Based on real incidents, Richie’s mini-series features, Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Kani Kusruti, Ranjitha Menon and Maala Parvathi, in a tale about forest officials uncovering a multi-million ivory poaching ring. Can a bunch of forest officials root this menace out and put an end to the slaughter of elephants or did they step into something that is too big for them? The mini-series drops on Amazon Prime Video on February 23.
