Boss Party from Waltair Veerayya: A hyper-energetic Chiranjeevi in a painfully dull, mediocre number

After Godfather, which could be considered an experiment for Chiranjeevi, despite being set in a mainstream space, the star is back to home territory with Waltair Veerayya, a mass entertainer, written and directed by Bobby Kolli. Shruti Haasan plays the female lead in the film that also features Ravi Teja, Bobby Simha, Catherine Tresa and others. Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar are bankrolling the film under Mythri Movie Makers.

Waltair Veerayya is all set to release in theatres for Sankranti 2023. Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) scores the music for the film. The first single from the entertainer, Boss Party, was launched today and we have two words to describe our thoughts - utterly disappointing. DSP hasn't only composed the number, but has written the lyrics and partly crooned for it as well (along with Nakash Aziz and Haripriya).

Boss Party is one of the dullest compositions by DSP in recent times - it's uninspiring and unimaginative on so many levels. The song feels like a mashup of many of his popular numbers over the years and evokes a sense of dejavu. The musical hook is hardly convincing and the lyrics, extremely lazy and convenient. Even after over 150 films and the fifth film into his comeback, does Chiranjeevi still need lines like 'Boss Osthundu' or 'Where's the Party?' to woo crowds?

Chiranjeevi is having the time of his life while being part of one fanboy tribute after the other, but do audiences, beyond his fans, feel the same? He dances like a dream in Boss Party too though it's disappointing that he needs to go back to his 90s avatars like Mutha Mestri and Gharana Mogudu to stay relevant to audience tastes in 2022. This is the time that Devi Sri Prasad could use well to reinvent himself again, but it looks like Waltair Veerayya isn't that album.
