In the historical drama Bose: Dead/Alive, popular Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao plays the title character of Indian revolutionary Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The revolutionary Bose was a key figure in the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. While the official account claimed he was killed in a plane crash, the body was never found, sparking conspiracy theories.
Written by Reshu Nath and directed by Pulkit, the web series on Altt tries to shed light on the mystery surrounding his death. The series has been created by Ekta Kapoor, while Hansal Mehta is the executive producer. The series is based on Anuj Dhar's novel India's Biggest Cover-up. After his plane crashed in Japanese-occupied Formosa (now Taiwan) on August 18, 1945, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is believed to have died. Mahatma Gandhi, however, instructed his family not to perform his final rites. The series then looks at the conspiracy theories regarding his demise even as other characters point out that he has disappeared before as well.
We are transported back to the mid-20th century as this series explores Bose’s life, his interactions with other prominent figures of the time and the political atmosphere in the country back then. Rajkummar delivers a powerful performance as the revolutionary, who courageously declares ‘You give me blood, I will give you freedom.’
Naveen Kasturia plays Darbari Lal, Edward Sonnenblick portrays Stanley Allen, and Anna Ador plays Emilie Schenkl in this series. The gripping narrative is backed by brilliant performances as the series looks into what could have happened to the revolutionary leader.
