Borderlands is an upcoming promising venture of Lionsgate and Arad Productions, inspired by the popular eponymous Gearbox game franchise. The film is not based on any one mission or spinoff but is inspired by the overall Borderlands franchise and popular characters. The cofounder of the game, Randy Pitchford, served as an executive producer on the film and oversaw authenticity.

Release date and trailer of Borderlands

Directed by horror icon Eli Roth, Borderlands is slated to be released on August 9, 2024. The film dropped its trailer on February 21, 2024, filling the giant Guardians of the Galaxy-sized hole in our hearts with its numerous parallels, from similar humour and background music to a quirky team-cum-family. The film’s stellar cast makes the trailer even easier on the eyes, amplifying engagement.

Plot of Borderlands

Borderlands follows the journey of Lilith, a renowned bounty hunter with a mysterious past, as she returns to her home planet, Pandora, the most chaotic planet in the galaxy. Her feelings on the matter are made clear by a sighing Lilith, who swears she loathes the place. Her mission? Finding the missing daughter of Atlas, “the universe’s most powerful S.O.B.” However, other than that, she is also in search of a fabled vault on her home planet that is filled with invaluable treasures.

Now Lilith, portrayed by a red-headed Cate Blanchett, may not be one to look for a raggedy team, but she is not foolish enough to go solo on such a mission. She gathers an odd bunch of talented misfits with their respective quirks, ranging from the mercenary Roland, the mad scientist Dr. Tannis, to the feral pre-teen demolitionist Tiny Tina, the former’s muscular protector Krieg, and Claptrap, the wiseass robot.

Now the odd team will have to survive and fight against hostile alien species, greedy bandits, crazy landscapes, and ruthless corporate overlords to triumph. From chasing through piss alley with a mouthful of the aforementioned ‘beverage’ to watching Claptrap have a public bout of lead overdose-caused diarrhea as a result of being shot too many times, Borderlands promises to be a dark and thrilling action ride with an extra helping of quirky humour.

They all may not see eye to eye on everything, but they soon end up fighting for one another instead of their own benefits. Borderlands features a talented and stellar cast, comprising the likes of Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, and Edgar Ramirez in the leading roles.
