The Sarkaru Vaari Paata star had made the comments during the trailer launch event of Adivi Sesh’s Major.
Tollywood heavyweight Mahesh Babu has recently caused quite a stir due to the recent comments he made about the Hindi film industry. For the uninitiated, the Sarkaru Vaari Paata had talked about how he felt ‘Bollywood couldn’t afford’ him and that he didn't want to ‘waste time’ in an industry which cannot. Filmmakers Boney Kapoor, Mukesh Bhatt and Ram Gopal Varma, were among the many who reacted to Mahesh’s comments.
In conversation with India Today, Boney Kapoor seemed to support Mahesh babu’s stance, saying that Mahesh had the right to say whatever he felt and would have his own reasons for saying so. Everyone had the right to their own opinion, said Boney and added “If he feels that way, it is good for him". The filmmaker also said that he himself belonged to both ‘Bollywood and South’ sides, doing films in both industries. So he was the ‘last person’ to comment on the situation.
Speaking to the portal, Mukesh Bhatt too expressed his support for the actor, saying “If Bollywood can't afford his price, then very good”. He further went on to talk about Mahesh’s successful career and standing in the film industry, saying there was ‘nothing wrong’ if Bollywood didn't match his expectation. The filmmaker also expressed his disbelief at people being offended over an actor’s ‘price tag’. Mukesh talked about how actors, filmmakers and others in the industry can chance the fee they charge based on their associations.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma also weighed in on the issue, calling Mahesh’s comments ‘his choice as an actor’. RGV also expressed his confusion at what Mahesh meant by the comments, saying he did not understand how the actor ‘generalised’ Bollywood.
Sarkaru Vaari Paata is now showing in theaters.
