With the release of Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan just around the corner, let us look at various Bollywood films which had the same titles, but different plots!
The Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan starrer has been in the news ever since the time it was announced. At first, the title of the film really took many by surprise, as it was the same title of the film which had the legendary Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda as the leading stars. Let us have a look at the various Bollywood films which had the same title but different plots and stars!
Baaghi
The very moment someone utters the title of Baaghi, memories of Salman Khan and Nagma romancing against the backdrop of the college comes alive. How can anyone forget the electrifying voice of Abhijeet who had crooned tracks like ‘Chandni raat hai… Tu mere saath hai’ and others. The film went onto not only establish box office history, but also established Nagma as an actress in Bollywood.
The film saw Saajan Sood (Salman Khan) falling in love with Kajal / Paro, who lands up in the business of skin selling. The Deepak Shivdasani directed film was a perfect example of how love sees and knows no barrier.
On the other hand, Baaghi, which was released in the year 2016 starred the ‘Mr. Super Flexible’ Tiger Shroff and the petite Shraddha Kapoor. The film was about Ranveer Pratap Singh aka Ronny’s style and lifestyle put to task when he comes in contact with Kailash Shetty (Shifuji Shaurya Bhardwaj). Post that, Ronny starts dealing with the tests and obstacles which life throws at him at regular intervals. All of this while he is protecting his ladylove Sia Khurana (Shraddha Kapoor).
Dilwale
It was in the year 1994 when the Ajay Devgn, Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon starrer Dilwale got released. As the film’s title itself depicts, the film was all about love and lovers! The film’s plot revolved around Arun Saxena (Ajay Devgan) being detained in a mental asylum, who gets extremely aggressive whenever someone mentions the name of Sapna (Raveena Tandon). The story takes an unexpected turn of sorts with the entry of the extremely upright police officer Inspector Vikram Singh (Suniel Shetty).
There was another film by the same title, which was released in the year 2016 and was directed by Rohit Shetty. This time round, the film starred the unbeatable golden pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The film revolved around the present and ‘past’ life of Raj Bakshi aka Kaali (Shah Rukh Khan) and Meera Dev Malik (Kajol).
Just as when Raj lives a peaceful and secluded life with his brother Veer Bakshi (Varun Dhawan) in Goa, life takes an unexpected turn when Meera Dev Malik enters their lives by default. The film, which also starred Kriti Sanon and Varun Sharma, continued the tradition of an SRK-Kajol film being a blockbuster!
The film’s tracks were definitely a sure-fire chartbuster. The Arijit Singh sung Geruaa till date, gives the romantic goosebumps to anyone who hears it! Both the ‘Dilwales’ proved to be a priceless cash cow for their makers.
Aankhen
For all those who have witnessed the hysteria during the ninety’s era because of two superstars Govinda and Chunky Pandey, whose sense of comic timing would beat even the best of comedians these days. Such a laugh riot was witnessed on the silver screen in the form of the David Dhawan directed Aankhen.
Besides the presence of the two stalwarts of comedy, the film also saw the presence of the legendary Kader Khan and others. For the unversed, at a time when the audiences were not able to handle one Govinda and his comic, the film saw not just Govinda, but also Kader Khan, Raj Babbar in double roles!
On the other hand, there was another film which had got released with the same title ‘Aankhen’. This Vipul Amrutlal Shah directed film was released in the year 2002 with a plethora of stars in the form of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Sushmita Sen, Paresh Rawal and Aditya Pancholi forming the leading stars of the film.
Dostana
The film’s plot revolved around Vijay Singh Rajput (Amitabh Bachchan) and his master plan post him being fired from his previous job. And the ones to execute his masterplan were Vishwas Prajapati (Akshay Kumar) and Arjun Verma (Arjun Rampal). Does Vijay become successful in masterminding the bank robbery is what the film was all about. Even though the box office collections of this film was not able to match that of the Govinda starrer film, this film found appreciation from almost everyone, mostly because of its watertight script!
Dostana
In the seventies and the eighties era of Bollywood, whenever there was a mention of undying friendship, the term ‘dostana’ used to be uttered. True to the essence of the term, the Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha and Zeenat Aman starrer became the benchmark for friendship.
The film’s plot revolved around the best friends Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan) and Ravi (Shatrughan Sinha), who happen to be a police officer and a lawyer respectively. Life and its unforeseen challenges raises its hood when the best friends fall in love with the same girl Sheetal (Zeenat Aman). What happens to the friendship of Vijay and Ravi, who will ultimately win over Sheetal and many such questions will be answered in the form of the Raj Khosla directed Dostana.
Circa 2008’- The time when filmmaker Tarun Mansukhani decides to wear the director’s hat and make a film with John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead! Even though the film was about them winning the heart of Neha Melwani (Priyanka Chopra), the route that the duo adopt is what made the film super fun to watch.
Kudos to the duo of John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan for having given their nod to the film despite knowing that they were the ‘quintessential alpha males’ of Bollywood. The film’s track ‘Maa da laadla bhigad gaya’, till date, is symbolic to the story premise of the film!
Khoobsurat
Considered to be one of Bollywood’s macho men, Sanjay Dutt has always been known for roles which gave him ample opportunities to bash up the goons, fire guns and also flex his brawn! But, the 1999 film Khoobsurat proved to be an attempt in changing that image of his. The film saw Sanjay Dutt in the role of a conman Sanjay Shastri aka Sanju, but, with a kind heart.
Because of his utmost need of money to save a little orphan girl, he lands up in the house of the Chaudharys, dressed up and posing like the NRI who impresses one and all. Not just that, he also becomes instrumental in the topsy turvy transformation of Shivani (Urmila Matondkar) from being a ‘behenji’ to a modern girl with utmost self-esteem. How can anyone not remember Sanjay Dutt crooning the track ‘Ae Shivaani.. tu lagti hai naani..’ and that too in his own voice!
The other film by the same title was the one which starred the unmistakable fashionista of Bollywood Sonam Kapoor. The film’s premise was about Dr. Mrinalini Rathore aka Mili, a physiotherapist by profession and her life till the time she enters the premise of a royal family in Rajasthan, the place where King Shekhar Singh Rathore (Fawad Khan) has been paralyzed from the waist down.
The ‘catch’ of the particular job profile is that, before her, there have been as many as 40 doctors who had packed their bags unable to deal with the strict instructions levied upon them by the higher authorities. Does Mili manage to find a place in the hearts of the royals or does she too join the long list of doctors who had packed their bags, is what forms the rest of the film.
