Plot of Bogla Mama Jug Jug Jio

Bogla Mama Jug Jug Jio is all about the misadventures of the eponymous Bogla Mama, aka Boglacharan Bhattacharya. As typical of the post-independence era, along with current trends in towns and villages, Bogla mama is a ‘dada’ or boss-like figure of a town in Bengal, where he runs a group theatre and performs locally.

His troupe is comprised of young boys, coaxed, invited and inspired to perform as actors who follow their leader like lost sheep. The advantage these ‘dada’ (elder brother), ‘kaka’ (distant uncle), or ‘mama’ (maternal uncle, here, a close uncle) figures have is the sway they hold over their followers, either by using power, money, or fear.

But Bogla Mama simply rules using love and humour. The film’s humorous and heartwarming story hits a snag when happy-go-lucky Bogla mama has to win a theatre competition after getting sponsorship from a local don, Felu Acharya (Rajatava Dutta). Felu Acharya’s tiff with the school headmaster and the ensuing competition result in unforeseen problems.

They create thorns along the rosy paths, building between parallel leads Kebu (Riddhi Sen) and Madhuja (Ditipriya Roy), as well as Bogla Mama and Krishna (Aparajita Adhya). Now Bogla Mama, Kebu, and the young boys must work hard at what they have been doing all their lives during leisure—theater—in hopes of restoring Felu Acharya’s lost respect, ensuring their heads remain bullet-free, and winning their lady loves.
