The actor revealed that he had wanted to work with director Prakash Jha for a very long time.
Ashram 3 saw Bobby Deol back in business as the treacherous Baba Nirala. The actor recently opened up about how he came to be a part of the show.
In conversation with First Post, the actor talked about how he had wanted to do something that fell out of his comfort zone and was interesting and mature for viewers. When he got the opportunity to do the first season, Deol had looked at it from an actor’s perspective. “I was never given opportunities to do a different role besides the 'richie rich, suave characters'. I was trying really hard to break away from that image", he said.
The actor revealed that he had first met director Prakash Jha when working on Gupt. Although Jha had expressed interest in a collaboration, it had been years later that they did work together on Aashram. When he was offered Aashram, Deol talked about how he initially thought he would play Darshan Kumar’s character in the series. When Jha revealed that Deol would play Nirala, the actor was ‘shocked, surprised and excited’. The actor, who wanted to break away from being typecast, had just wanted to prove himself as an actor initially. Deol said that he had never thought about how successful Aashram might end up being. He said that the show’s story was such that it could not be fully told in just one season. And after the first two seasons of the series became such a huge success, viewers naturally wanted to know what happens next, he added.
The first three seasons of Aashram are available to stream on MX Player.
