Netflix is preparing to debut Blue Eye Samurai, an animated action-adventure series. The show is directed by Jane Wu, who has previously worked on successful productions such as Mulan, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Star Trek Beyond. Blue Eye Samurai tells the story of a swordsman seeking revenge while in disguise. The series is co-written by Michael Green, known for his work on Logan and Blade Runner 2049, and Amber Noizumi. Maya Erskine lends her voice to the main character. The series' promotional posters and first-look images feature a samurai holding a sword, preparing for a duel.
When the show was first announced, Green and Noizumi explained that Blue Eye Samurai is an action-adventure set 400 years ago. They emphasized that the themes of the series are relevant and personal to them, and expressed their appreciation for Netflix's support in bringing their ambitious animated drama to life.
Along with Erskine, the cast also features George Takei, Masi Oka, Randall Park and Darren Barnet. Blue Eye Samurai also marks the reunion of Green and Kenneth Branagh after Death on the Nile. While Green wrote the screenplay, Kenneth starred and helmed the movie, which is an adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel.
