Director Blessy recently addressed speculations about his recent movie Aadujeevitham , while questioning the intentions behind those spreading such rumours. The film's source material is a sprawling novel by celebrated Malayalam writer Benyamin titled Aadujeevitham, also known as The Goat Life. The book includes a controversial scene where the novel's protagonist, Najeeb Muhammed, seemingly forgets his humanity and becomes intimate with a goat.

The mentioned scene was one of the highly debated parts of the novel, to the extent that it also became part of the study curriculum in Kerala universities. Readers of the book were eager to see how Blessy had handled this part of Najeeb's life as envisioned by Benyamin.

Blessy, however, avoided depicting the scene in the film. Following the film's release, a statement by Benyamin claimed that Blessy had filmed the scene but removed it from the final cut to meet the approval of the censor board.

Blessy's take on the Aadujeevitham controversy

"This is an unnecessary controversy. I'm not sure if someone is deliberately creating these rumours. I hope the audience will distance themselves from such rumours," Blessy told Manorama News.

Blessy mentioned that he had only adapted 43 pages from the novel, as covering all the details penned by Benyamin would require making 10 movies. He also noted that his portrayal of Najeeb differed significantly from Benyamin's vision.

Unlike Benyamin's Najeeb, Blessy suggested that his protagonist didn't completely lose touch with humanity.

"I could have filmed the scene in various ways, but I was thinking about Najeeb. Wouldn't he feel guilt afterwards? Perhaps the Najeeb in the book is without guilt, but my Najeeb is not like that," Blessy added.

Benyamin's statement regarding Blessy filming the controversial scene had gone viral on social media, receiving mixed reactions from audiences.
